I’m a Master’s Degree student at the University of Florence (Italy) and I’m currently working in Professor Philip Poole’s group as an academic visitor for a 6 month internship, thanks to the Erasmus+ Traineeship Project. I am assessing pea root attachment, colonization and the nodulation competitiveness of lppE mutants of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv viciae 3841, under the supervision of Dr Vinoy Ramachandran.
The lppE operon consists of three genes that encode key factors that are highly and specifically activated during pea root attachment and colonization. I began studying Rhizobia during my Bachelor’s Degree internship, so my aims are to learn lots of new features about Rhizobiaand new techniques for studying them during next few months, thanks to the outstanding Rhizosphere laboratory.
