Joshua Roworth

I graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Biochemistry (2013). My DPhil  project focuses on mapping the exudation of carbon compounds from the roots of various land plants using Lux biosensors. Following screening of a mutant library of rice plants to identify those affected in the secretion of root exudates, I will phenotypically characterize these mutants to determine the role that exudates play in a variety of processes ranging from managing the microbial population of the rhizosphere to nutrient acquisition. Furthermore, the Lux system will be used to screen libraries of Arabidopsis thaliana (mutant libraries, accession libraries etc.) with the aim to identify genes that play key roles in the control and regulation of root secretion.
