I obtained my PhD on the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain), working on Boron essentiality. Then, I moved to the Center for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP, UPM-INIA; Madrid, Spain) where I help characterizing different genes involved in the metal homeostasis in two different models: in the free living diazotroph Azotobacter vinelandii and within the nodule formed in the rhizobia-legume symbiosis.
As postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Poole’s laboratory, my focus is on engineering nitrogen fixation capabilities on the chassis of bacterial root colonizers, in order to provide a sustainable source of nitrogen for the production of cereals.
To do this we will combine synthetic biology approaches (modular cloning, high-throughput screening) with root assays and detailed biochemical characterization when required.
