I am a DPhil student on the Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP (BBSRC) and my DPhil project is focussed on free-living bacteria that can fix nitrogen and form close root associations with cereals crops such as barley. I am looking to engineer these bacteria to enable better transfer of nitrogen from bacteria to the plant which could have implications in reducing nitrogen fertiliser application to crops.
