I graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia in July 2016 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. I then moved to Oxford to begin a BBSRC Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP in October 2016, supported by a Brasenose Oxford-Australia Clarendon Scholarship.
During my DPhil project, I have focused on the swimming behaviour of Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae 3841. I have especially been interested in the importance of flagellar swimming and chemotaxis during various stages of its symbiosis with pea (Pisum sativum). In addition, I investigating the metabolic control of swimming behaviour, both via chemotaxis and through independent mechanisms. I hope that this research will provide a better understanding of the role of these systems in symbiosis and thus allow their manipulation to help improve legume crop yield.
